I have used Dove body washes in the past and usually order the multi-packs so I’ll have extras for my rental units and the guest bathrooms in my home. I like the brand because it doesn’t break my skin out or cause any strange reactions. As an animal lover, I’m also pleased that they don’t test on animals. I like that it’s sulfate-free and paraben-free.I often use their other body washes in place of shaving cream. The ones I’ve used before were a white, creamy color, more like a cream cleanser than a clear liquid or gel. Dove is generally a lower price point, mass-market brand I use, but I also like to splurge on high-end body washes from spas, boutiques, and luxury skincare lines. Over the last few years, I’ve been using less expensive brands more as backup shower gels while primarily using high-end ones since I receive so many as gifts or in gift sets. I am very familiar with bath and body products and skincare lines at every price point—you name it, I’ve probably tried it.When I got the opportunity to test out this new Dove shower gel, I was intrigued. I assumed it would work like a typical liquid soap or any other drugstore brand. The fragrance sounded floral and pleasant, so I figured at the very least, I’d have more shower gel to use as a backup, put in a guest bathroom, or give to a friend or relative. I was in for a big surprise when I actually tried it.First of all, I am probably the best person to test and review this body wash because I’ve used so many different brands and am already familiar with Dove. Most importantly, I have extremely dry skin—drier than anyone I’ve ever met. I actually have a skin condition on the palms of my hands and soles of my feet that makes them very dry and flaky, similar to eczema or psoriasis. The skin on my legs and arms also tends to be very dry. Because of this, my shower routine is a process. I have to exfoliate with a loofah, use a foot scraper or fine foot file on my feet and sometimes even my hands, and after showering, I apply body oil all over, followed by a thick body butter or cream to lock in moisture. If I don’t do this entire routine, my skin will be flaky, and my hands and feet will be in terrible condition. There is no shortcut that works—I’ve had to do this religiously for years. Just taking a shower, towel drying, and getting dressed is unheard of for me. It takes me an hour to an hour and a half to shower and get ready, partially because of this and also because I have long, thick hair. When I received the body washes, I appreciated that they generously sent a large four-pack so I would have extras. There was a little product leakage around a couple of the bottles, which I had to clean up in the sink. It wasn’t a major spill, just a minor nuisance. I understand these are shipped in bulk to big box stores where they don’t need to be taped up, but for Amazon orders, a small sticker or tape at the top would prevent any leakage issues. The fragrance I received was Sakura Blossom and Yuzu. I have no idea what either of those actually smell like, but the scent was a nice, light floral that I think most people would enjoy. I don’t typically go for floral scents, but this one was subtle and pleasant. What intrigued me most about this body wash was the claim on the bottle about 24-hour lotion-soft skin. It also mentioned “24HR Renewing Micromoisture: Drench yourself in millions of moisturizing microdroplets that deeply nourish for 24 hours of soft, healthy-looking skin.” When I read that, I honestly thought, “Yeah, right.” I’ve seen so many body washes claim to be moisturizing, but in my experience, soap just washes off down the drain—it doesn’t actually provide lasting moisture. I’ve never dreamed of skipping moisturizer after a shower, but I wanted to test this product fairly, so I decided to take one for the team and try it without using any body oil or moisturizer afterward. I fully expected it to have no real effect.I was shocked. The first time I used it, I immediately noticed how well it lathered up with a shower puff. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a shower gel create so many suds. It’s a soapy liquid rather than a creamy formula, with a very light pink or ivory color. I used it all over and rinsed it off, then washed my hair, conditioned it, exfoliated, and shaved using the body wash. To test the moisturizing effect even further, I used it one more time at the end of my shower and let it sit on my skin for a couple of minutes while I washed my face and did a quick face mask. I figured this would give it more time to work and prevent it from just rinsing down the drain. I rinsed off the face mask and rinsed all of the shower gel down the drain until there were no soap suds left. After my shower, I towel dried and got dressed without applying any moisturizer—something I never do. Normally, this would leave me with extremely dry, flaky skin, especially on my hands and feet, and my legs and arms would look dry and crepey. That did not happen. My skin actually felt soft and hydrated. No crustiness. I couldn’t believe it.I have spent years slathering on body oils and creams after every single shower just to avoid my skin becoming unbearably dry, and somehow, this body wash did what no other has. Normally, if I skipped moisturizer, the dry skin on my feet would catch on my sheets and blankets at night, but that didn’t happen. This is the first body wash I’ve ever used that actually does what it claims. I’m still going to use my body oils and moisturizers as part of my routine, but this product is now a must-have in my shower. I’ll get the benefit of using it and then locking in the moisture with body oil/ body butter. Someone without my skin problems/ extreme dryness wouldn’t need any extra steps- and I actually feel confident now that if I needed to take a quick shower and rush out the door I could skip the moisturizing step altogether and not feel like my skin is crusty and flaking off. If it works this well for me, it will absolutely work for someone with regular dry skin that isn’t as extreme as mine.I recommend using it as the last step in your shower and letting it sit on your skin for a minute before rinsing. Most people probably won’t even need to use a body cream afterward.I’m so glad I had the opportunity to test and review this product because, honestly, if I had just seen an ad, I wouldn’t have believed it actually moisturized the skin. Who hasn’t seen a million ads from soaps and shower gels that claim to be “moisturizing”? I had no reason to believe this one would be any different. But somehow, Dove has cracked the code with this one. I never thought a shower gel could truly moisturize my skin, but this one does. I’ll be repurchasing it and using it in place of my $30 high end shower gel now. I have the driest skin of anyone I know, and if it works for me, it will work for anyone. 5 stars easy!
